Father’s Day, Cairns Amateurs and local markets
There is always plenty going on in Port Douglas and the surrounding area during September, due in part to the amazing ‘winter’ weather we are lucky enough to enjoy. Cairns Amateurs is only a week away and if racing isn’t your thing, you’ll find plenty of markets to meander around and pick up that perfect gift for yourself or a loved one.
Why book direct?
With so many hotel booking platforms available, it can feel overwhelming when it comes to deciding which option to choose. So why book direct? Firstly, you are of course supporting local businesses but also, you will receive a $25 voucher per person, to use at our Shantara spa during your stay. You will also find your visitor experience more flexible as your booking and interaction is with us from the outset. We look forward to welcoming you!
Father’s Day – 2 September
No matter what kind of Dad your husband or Father is, there will be something for him to do and see at Port Douglas but for that ultimate present, why not treat him to a break at the Shantara Resort? What better way to say ‘thank you’, than to give the gift of relaxation. Who wouldn’t enjoy some down time next to our pristine pool?
Cairns Amateurs – 7 – 8 September
Arguably the biggest event on the local racing calendar, the Cairns Amateurs is always an exciting day out which combines sport, fashion, entertainment and of course, delicious food and beverage options for guests. So, if you’re staying with us on 7 or 8 September, why not check it out?

We are so fortunate to have many local markets available near the Shantara Resort. Take a short stroll to ANZAC park by the waterfront where you will find arts, crafts, gifts, produce, books and so much more. Sunday, 08:00 – 14:00.
On Wednesdays, you can enjoy the sunset markets at the Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina which is also host to a variety of specialist shops and restaurants. Overlooking the beautiful Dixon marina, it’s perfectly positioned for a sundowner as you watch the boats return from trips to the Great Barrier Reef. Wednesday, 12:00 – 18:00.
The markets at Mossman are held each Saturday under the spectacular raintrees. Here you will find fresh produce from the farm as well as handcrafted items. A true, relaxed country market. Saturday, 07:00 – 13:00.
Just a 90-minute drive north of Port Douglas, the Daintree Rainforest forms part of Australia’s largest continuous tropical rainforest. Its plant diversity and structural complexity is unrivalled.
Guests can organise day tours to explore the natural beauty and see where the rainforest meets the reef. Speak to our helpful staff on the front desk to find out more.
